
Students’ Welfare Department
Welcome to the Department of Students’ Welfare. The Department provides welfare services and support for enhancing students’ growth and development in the College. The Department is headed by the Dean of Students who is assisted by staff with a wide scope of knowledge in students’ welfare matters. The basic principle that guides the Department of Students Welfare is the provision of high-quality services that nurture students to engage in academic and social development. This signifies that student receive adequate information that helps them to make a smooth transition in the College and beyond. Welfare services offered by the Department of Students Welfare include student leadership, catering, accommodation, sports and games, counselling and guidance, banking, finances, fellowship affairs, clubs or societies, life skills, health, mediating conflicts, security matters, etc.
The staff of the Department of Students Welfare Office provides support to individual students or groups experiencing life situations impacting their learning experience and coordinates the appropriate individual or campus-wide response. Staff members work to promote a safe, respectful, healthy and inclusive academic community, coordinate specific programmes and services, and monitor and respond to emerging situations that impact students.
The objective of the Students’ Welfare Department is to collaborate with other College organs to continuously enhance the educational, physical, social, emotional and spiritual well-being of students.
The functions of the Department are:
To coordinate the management of students’ assembly.
To implement and enforce all policies, rules and regulations of the College concerning students’ general conduct, behaviour and discipline
To facilitate management/staff-student relations that promote an atmosphere characterized by justice, fairness, and good human relations
To handle students’ problems that affect their academic performance;
To facilitate resource mobilization for student affairs and services
To undertake the administration of students’ welfare services in the areas of accommodation; catering, health and recreation
To supervise the general elections of the student’s government
To advise DP-PFA on matters about Students’ affairs
To coordinate counselling services to students on academic, social and health matters
To guide students on the observance of college regulations and students’ by-laws
To prepare an appropriate budget for the directorate;
To organize orientation programmes for new students in collaboration with the DP-ARC;
To develop appropriate strategies for discerning, controlling and managing students’ conflicts; and
To coordinate the management of students’ assembly.
